Article summary

From 1879 to the First World War there were five fish factories in Izola. Between the First and Second World War there were only two left, the Ampelea and the Arrigoni, which were both successful and employed a large number of workers, mainly from Izola. Due to the political instability of the region the post-war period was difficult. That came to an end with the incorporation of Istria into Yugoslavia. The fish industry in Izola reached its peak in the 1960s with the company Delamaris. The 1970s and the 1980s were characterized by a political and economic crisis on a national level, leading to the decline of the fish industry in Izola. In 2014 Delamaris was relocated to Pivka, marking the end of the fish industry in Izola.
